| Why choose us? |
This course will be led by John Rhyder who was for many years a greenwood worker of note. He is extremely experienced in numerous traditional crafts and worked formally with trees and woodland since 1987. For over 10 years his role was one of a freelance woodland manager surveying sites and writing management plans then following through to working up the wood and selling the produce. He is also very experienced in tree felling and in his younger days he was often called out by colleges to deal with trees that where, in their words “a bit tricky”. As an approved assessor for the NPTC, the felling aspect of this course is taught to this high standard assuring safe practice coupled with experience that will teach you many tricks of the trade and how to deal with difficult situations. Anyone else working on this course is also extremely well versed in traditional crafts, woodland management and has undergone training to NPTC standards. |

| What's
it about? |
| |
| Knowledge
of safe axe use and natural materials becomes a life saving
skill in isolated regions. However, in less extreme situations
for craft or practical skills it would still be difficult,
if not impossible, to accomplish without a thorough understanding
of the methods. This course will focus on all of the possible
treatments of the axe and also some of the other related
woodcraft tools such as the knife, adze and froe. We cover
the whole process from felling trees, working the wood
to craft applications including carving and working with
roots and bark. You will end up with a thorough knowledge
of what these wonderful tools can do for you, together
with some really impressive items to take home. |
