Important Course Information

Course meeting times
  • One day course start at 9.30am and finish at 4pm - see your information pack 4 weeks before course starts
  • Weekend and longer camping courses - our courses generally start at 7pm on the start date and end at 4pm on the last day when you will be delivered back to your cars. Please note that we will give you directions and map to our site which is sent out 4 weeks before the course starts. We can collect you from Liphook train station in Hampshire and these times will be given on your joining instructions (usually 30 mins before the course starts). If you are taking the train home, you should allow to be at the station to catch a train from 5pm onwards. You can call the National Trains Helpline on 0845 484950 for all up-to-date times and rail information.
  • We can also collect from the train station at Totnes for the Wild Food course and the Travelling Naturalist in Devon.

Car parking and safety - all of our courses are run from private estates and therefore have limited access to the general public. We cannot guarantee 100% the safety of your vehicle but then again, we have not suffered any theft or damage on our courses. All personal and valuable items should be restricted to a minimum, be kept in your day sack or can be given to our instructors for safe keeping for the duration of your course. The camp is remote from the car park so we drive all your equipment to the camp (this means that you can bring a little bit more than fits in your average rucksack including a camp chair!)

Mobile phones - there will be time to keep in touch but we kindly ask our clients to be discreet and to turn these off during formal teaching periods. Please note that the signal is not great for all providers (except satellite phones!) at the camp due to the location and number of trees.

Sanitary and course facilities - an expedition type camp does not have flushing toilets or running water, but we try to make life’s necessary functions as comfortable as possible. We offer an open air shower and covered composting toilet, although it’s basic but you might just learn to love it! We also have a heated round house for bad weather or evening work.

Bad weather - you are always going to get some weeks worse than others, but we find that you actually learn more when you have to try a bit harder! Only in the most severe of weather conditions will we cancel a course, so please ensure you are kitted out as per our Kit List.

Alcohol - this is strictly forbidden on all of our camping courses for obvious safety reasons. However, groups may go for a drink after the course so some spare cash can be brought along!

Knives - please do not bring your own knives or any other cutting tools as you will be loaned appropriate equipment when necessary. At no times should an axe be used without prior confirmation from our staff.
