Target Group 
This indepth course has been designed as a stand alone qualification for anyone with an interest in woodland crafts, either as an occupation or for general study. We anticipate it will be a natural extension of skills especially to those already teaching bushcraft as well as those interested in pursuing a woodland career.

Content
The programme has been designed to cover the skills of the modern woodsman/ coppice worker. We will explore in depth among others the following subjects:

  • Woodland Management Systems

  • Felling and Harvesting

  • Splitting and Cleaving

  • Greenwood Working

  • Charcoal Burning

  • Hedgelaying

  • Woodland Crafts

  • Rustic Furniture and Features

  • Tool Use and Maintenance

  • Health and Safety

Accreditation
This
entire qualification is accredited by the NCFE as a Level 3 qualification. This means that the subjects mentioned above are taught and learned at an advanced level. The process of assessment and accreditation is run by the NCFE who are responsible for the quality assurance and control.

Certification
The course leads to an NCFE Level 3 qualification in Wood Crafts backed up by a Woodcraft School certification detailing the exact content of the course programme and the modules choosen.

Woodcraft School is an accredited NCFE Centre and Head Instructor, John Rhyder has written several bespoke qualifications for Bushcraft that are not available anywhere else in the country. NCFE are perhaps the oldest organisation of their kind in the country operating in the same way as other awarding bodies such as City and Guilds etc.

What's it about?
 
 

This programme is designed to take students with little or no experience and equip you with the fundamental skills of traditional woodland crafts.
The course will run in 2 and 3 day blocks taken over one or two years. It is possible to camp on site when attending the course and there may be some evening work depending on the modules chosen.

You will be expected to produce a small portfolio of evidence and to obtain 12 credits to complete the award.

Progression
Successful candidates could use the qualification for continued professional development or progress.If you have any questions or would like more information about this course please feel free to contact us for an informal chat.

Attendance schedule 

A Hedgelaying day on the 4th December 2010 (no credits) is offered free to those booked on this course valued at £80.

Fees
Please note that this is not a funded course but you might be able to get support from your work place or through some funding awards - (speak to us as we may be able to give you some ideas)

Payment
Total cost is £930.00 including VAT.
There is an initial deposit of £180.00 to secure the course followed by 10 x regular monthly direct debits of £75.00 per month - the start date is dependent on your first course. This is a substantial discount of 15% (£165) as the 5 courses separately will cost £1,095 without certification. You will enter into a contract with Woodcraft School for the duration of the course for this payment option.
