Overview
This programme is designed specifically for outdoor instructors who wish to gain recognition for their knowledge while supporting their professional development. All material assessed is covered during the course, ensuring there are no surprises, and the programme provides practical skills that are immediately applicable in both professional and personal outdoor settings.
The course is delivered in a three-day training block followed by a further day of assessment, with time in between for consolidation and practice. This structure allows participants to refine their skills before evaluation and ensures the learning is thorough and lasting. The award provides an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to develop their bushcraft knowledge and may lead naturally to the Advanced Bushcraft Award for those seeking to progress further.
Course Content
Throughout the programme, participants develop a wide range of outdoor skills, beginning with tool use and maintenance, fire-making and management, sustainable harvesting, and minimal-impact practices. Instruction also covers plant and tree identification and practical uses, recognising and managing heat and cold-related injuries, constructing effective shelter systems, essential knots and rope work, and understanding the importance of safe water and purification techniques.
The course blends practical bushcraft skills with a deeper understanding of nature, equipping candidates to apply their knowledge confidently in professional sessions or outdoor adventures. By the end of the programme, students emerge with recognised accreditation and a solid foundation in bushcraft that can be built upon in future training.
The programme is an ideal start place to acquire bushcraft and students may wish to progress to the Advanced Bushcraft Award
